Why is sun cream so important?

Why is sun cream so important?

That time of year is finally here! Suns out and we want to get our summer tans on, am I right? That means short shorts on and as much sun exposure as you can, sun creams cheating. If you burn, then it’s okay, that will just turn to tan with a bit of after sun. Well my friend, I’m afraid you are wrong, what might look like a good tan for a few weeks could be setting you up for a skin nightmare further down the line!

Though sunshine is really good for us, loaded with vitamin D, the happy vitamin that makes us smile when the sun is out, its rays are also full of harmful UV radiation. The ozone layer is no longer what it once was, so these rays have become stronger than ever, meaning we need to be wearing our good friend sun cream as a shield to filter out the bad stuff and let in the good stuff.

So what are the risks to your skin if you don’t wear sun cream?

1. Aging Skin

Studies reveal that people below the age of 55 who used sunscreen had 24% lesser chances of developing fine lines, liver spot and wrinkles that UV rays cause than non-sunscreen and occasional sunscreen users. This is because sun damage weakens the collagen and connective tissue. Sun cream locks in the essential moisture and oils the skin needs and acts as a barrier against the UV.

2. Skin Cancer Risks

While I started using sunscreen mainly for beauty reasons, this health benefit came as an advantage. Wear your sunscreen daily and over the days and months to shield your skin from the risk of various types of skin cancer, especially, melanoma. This is the worst type of skin cancers, which can be life threatening for women, particularly those who are in their 20s.

3. Troubled Skin

Without the use of sun cream freckle and acne sufferers are likely to break out no end. Not only this but deep sun burn can lead to the eruption of blood vessels in the face that may never heal! I would suggest to make like easy, get a good face cream or foundation with SPF already in it, then you’re protected for the day ahead!

4. Sunburn

So, the myth about burning will turn to tan, it’s not true, really you are just causing huge cell damage. Direct exposure of UVB rays attacks the skin causing peeling, swelling, redness, hives, and itching. A study published in ‘Annals of Epidemiology’ showed that recurring sunburn could actually put you at a higher risk of lethal melanoma (cancer). It may take a bit longer to build a tan with sun cream, but you will an even blister free glow, not to mention safe!

I hope these points have swayed you to start using our super sun ray hero! Don’t give into the peer pressure to get that tan fast, build it gradually and safely. Rather look young and healthy for longer, right? It’s not worth the risk.
